2025 Featured Artist: Jenny Meyer-McCall

Jenny Meyer-McCall is a Kansas City Mixed-Media Artist. Her art focuses on whimsical floral paintings, telling a story of humor and quirky adventures within an abstract composition. She explores the modern domestic through layers of thick acrylic paint, unexpected elements, and childhood nostalgia.

“This painting embodies the spirit of Prairie Village. I live here, so this piece is extra special to me. Raising my children in this neighborhood, bringing them up to the Village, growing our backyard garden of native flowers and veggies, sharing in the community, and enjoying the parks, is all incorporated into this painting. I leaned into materials that come directly from the Village and neighborhoods, plus a little of my own personal history. There are shards of brick from the Village nestled into the texture, blue prints of the Village buildings have been cut and attached, historic aerial photos of the shopping center are in the layers. The book pages are from a local garage sale. It is the Odyssey, which seems appropriate, as my journey is also represented in this piece. I also included some fabric from my grandmother’s sewing room to share the traditions we pass down as we grow our families. Connecting generations, the center of some of the textural flowers contain toys, beads, and some tiny humans, my kids’ trinkets peeking out of the canvas. Finally, I have painted playful hydrangeas that are so plentiful throughout the Village, inviting the viewer to jump into this colorful adventure and find their own story inside.”
